Should There Be A Constitutional Amendment Outlawing Abortion?

Today is Wednesday, March 31, 2010
Since the time of Roe vs. Wade, Abortion is legal...however, it is up to the state government as to when the abortion can be done and for what reason.  What do you think would happen if the Supreme Court decided to outlaw abortion and the state's were not allowed to make laws as to when abortion's could be done and for what reason?  Leave a comment and tell me what you think...

One part of me thinks yes abortions should be outlawed, and the another part is saying no they shouldn't. A part of me thinks abortions should be outlawed because you are ending a life that had not even started. Abortion is murder, you are ending the life of a future human being. The other part of me thinks abortion should not be outlawed because some women are just put in that position where they can't take care of a baby at that moment. We have so many teens today getting pregnant at very young ages. They might not have the support they need to help care for a baby, so they look to getting an abortion.

My view of the opposed question is no, they should not create a constitutional amendment outlawing abortion. I believe this would create more turmoil than there already is over same sex marriage. I choose to believe that no one should have the power to change someone else's life. We shouldn't be able to decide who eats and who doesn't. Our country preaches equality and promises fair treatment but yet a young girl who made a mistake and isn't prepared for a child, is being forced to have it rather than aborting. Everyone should be able to decide for themselves because everyone should have the same opportunities. The government shouldn't make an amendment that outlaws abortion until they put themselves in everyone else's shoes and their difficult situations. It just wouldn't be fair.

D.M- I think if the Supreme Court outlawed abortion there would definitely be less teenage pregnancies. If a teenager thinks he or she is "ready" that person would think about the consequences of doing it, and ask themselves "Am I ready to have a child and take care of it at this age?"

MC- I believe that government should not outlaw abortion. In our century teenagers are becoming pregnant at a very young age and other situations where women might need to get an abortion. Different people have many different opinions so the state laws vary throughout the US. The state government should have control over Abortion not the Supreme Court.

JG - If The Supreme Court outlawed abortion, there will be less accidental pregnancy's and I believe abortion is wrong because it's not the baby's fault it was created. If it was outlawed, the people would think twice before having sex.

I do not think abortion should be illegal because the choice over when and whether to have children is central to a woman's independence and ability to determine HER future. Plus, embryos and fetuses are not independent, self-determining beings, and abortion is the termination of a pregnancy, not a baby. But I do believe that there should be some restrictions to this law. For instance, someone who is raped should without a doubt be able to get an abortion but if a prostitute winds up pregnant then she shouldn't be granted the right to have an abortion.
